Most of my Collelctions begin with : I wonder what would happen if…
It’s a question that has followed me throughout my life as an Australian landscape artist.
Sometimes the answer begins with a new colour, a different pigment or a sheet of paper I’ve never used before. Other times it’s a line from a song, a changing sky, a solitary tree or something I’ve read that quietly refuses to leave me alone. Whatever it is, I find myself following the idea with a brush in my hand.
One thought can become twenty paintings. Sometimes it becomes sixty. I stay with it until it has said everything it wants to say, and then, almost without noticing, another idea catches my attention. Before long I’m travelling down a different creative road, curious to see where it might lead.
These collections bring together my original Australian landscape paintings, watercolours, graphite drawings and mixed media works. They weren’t planned as separate bodies of work. They grew naturally, each one gathering around an idea that refused to let go until it found its way onto the canvas or paper.
And when one collection finally feels complete, I usually find myself standing in front of a blank canvas, smiling to myself and thinking…
