What would happen if… I painted the African landscape in my own way?
It all began with an acacia tree.
I fell in love with its remarkable silhouette. Those wonderfully slender white trunks, supporting broad canopies like delicate umbrellas, seemed almost too beautiful to be real. Curious to know where they grew most prolifically, I found myself travelling, at least in my imagination, to the vast landscapes of Africa.
Then came the next question.
What if these iconic trees were painted in vibrant colour rather than realism? What if the skies became rich velvet blues, glowing sunsets or dramatic fields of colour? Before long, one idea became another, and a collection of original Australian landscape paintings inspired by the African savanna began to take shape.
These contemporary landscape paintings celebrate the unmistakable form of the acacia tree while allowing me to explore colour, atmosphere and space with complete freedom. Although inspired by the African landscape, each painting is interpreted through my own artistic voice, where bold colour, expansive skies and quiet stillness come together in a way that is unmistakably my own.
And, as with so many collections before it, it all began with a simple question…
