Some paintings begin with a place. This one began with a poem.
Robert Fanning’s Song of the Sea to the Shore captures the endless conversation between ocean and land, where every wave reaches for the shoreline only to fall away and begin again. Those words stayed with me and became the inspiration for this painting.
“Every place I touch you changes shape…
Shore, lie down.
I’ll fill your thirsty bones with blue.”
Rather than illustrating the poem, I wanted to paint its feeling. Sweeping clouds drift above the sea as water and sky become part of the same quiet rhythm, each responding to the other in an endless cycle of movement and stillness.
The Sea To The Shore was later selected for Selling Houses Australia, where its quiet coastal palette and expansive sky complemented one of the home’s interior transformations.
With its soft coastal palette and expansive horizon this Australian coastal painting, The Sea To The Shore brings a sense of openness and calm to a room. The layered blues, soft neutrals and sweeping sky complement coastal, Hamptons, contemporary and minimalist interiors, while the quiet composition creates a peaceful focal point that reveals different moods as the light changes throughout the day.
Painted on gallery-quality stretched canvas, the colours continue around the edges, allowing the artwork to be displayed beautifully with or without framing. A floating frame is also available for those seeking a refined contemporary finish.
Your painting is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity and is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely at its new home.
If The Sea To The Shore has already been collected but speaks to you, I’d be delighted to create a bespoke original inspired by its expansive skies, coastal atmosphere and quiet sense of place. Every commission is painted especially for its collector, ensuring your artwork remains a completely unique original.
