The Gathering explores the quiet tension that settles across the landscape as weather begins to build. A vast storm formation lowers over open ground, its weight softened by distance and diffused light. Beneath the darkened sky, the land remains still and exposed, suspended within the charged atmosphere that arrives before change.
Rather than depicting weather in motion, the painting reflects the feeling of anticipation carried within the landscape as cloud, light and air begin to shift. The gathering storm becomes less a literal event and more a meditation on accumulation: of weather, memory and emotional weight held within open space.
Layered tones of charcoal, muted blue-grey and softened earth create a restrained palette that allows atmosphere to dominate the work. The sweeping cloud mass presses gently downward across the composition while the pale land below offers stillness and balance, creating a delicate relationship between heaviness and calm.
Like much of Lucinda Leveille’s work, The Gathering is concerned with the emotional resonance of weather rather than a specific location. It reflects an ongoing exploration of stillness, distance and the subtle transformations that occur within both landscape and memory before renewal begins.
