Some paintings begin with the storm.
The Earth Exhales began with what came afterwards.
I wanted to paint that first quiet breath when the weather has finally passed and the landscape begins to soften again. The clouds still carry their weight, but the tension has eased. Warm light slowly returns across the land until everything feels just a little lighter than it did before.
I wasn’t interested in painting the drama of the storm. I wanted to paint the relief that follows it. That quiet moment when the world seems to pause, gather itself, and begin again.
For me, The Earth Exhales is a painting about renewal. Not the loud kind that arrives all at once, but the gentle reassurance that difficult seasons eventually give way to calmer days.
Painted in oils on canvas, The Earth Exhales explores the quiet beauty of the Australian landscape after changing weather.
This painting forms part of Renewal, an exhibition presented by Art Lovers Australia in Melbourne. Availability and enquiries are managed through the gallery.
