Softness in the Dark was created for Charleston’s Fine Art Auctions as part of my continuing exploration of light, atmosphere and the Australian landscape. A break in the cloud reveals a passage of golden light that moves across the landscape, illuminating a solitary flowering tree below. The painting captures the quiet beauty that can emerge from even the darkest skies.

Balancing strength with delicacy, the work reflects my fascination with those fleeting moments when weather transforms the landscape and ordinary scenes become extraordinary. The contrast between the dark sky and luminous light creates a sense of hope, calm and renewal.
