“Scarlet Skies” is a new painting from the series “Above The Canopy,” inspired by the transformative view from my studio window after the removal of a dense cluster of trees. What remains is a single spindly gum tree, a symbol of resilience. As I look out above the tree canopy, I often reflects on the few brave trees that seem to reach for the sky, standing taller than the rest. This observation has become the foundation for a growing body of work.

The palette in “Scarlet Skies”, as is all the works from this group, is deeply influenced by the vivid and striking hues of the Australian landscape. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant pinks of the salt lakes and the rich greens of the ocean, these works transport viewers into an imagined world that exists above the treetops, a magical and serene space. Each piece in the series begins to build this ethereal world, where the view from above the canopy reveals an otherworldly beauty.
