Fragile Blossoms is an original artwork by Lucinda Leveille, created using a unique combination of watercolour and oil paint on canvas. The technique used to create this painting is one I have developed over many years. It begins with the careful preparation of the canvas so it can accept layers of watercolour—something not traditionally done on canvas. Once the surface is ready, I build the composition with multiple layers of watercolour, allowing each layer to be individually fixed before the next is applied. This painstaking process creates depth, richness, and a subtle luminosity that watercolour alone cannot achieve. To finish the piece, I apply oil paint and use a glazing technique to enhance certain areas, followed by a protective varnish that brings out the colours and textures even more vividly. Therefore, the piece is ready to hang, no glass for the watercolour!

When it comes to packaging, I take great care to make sure each piece arrives safely. The painting will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a sturdy cardboard box. I do my best to use recycled materials when possible, as I believe in reducing waste where I can. If the artwork includes glass, it will be carefully taped to prevent breakage during transit. I must admit, I’m still figuring out how to win the battle with my tape dispenser—so while the outside of the parcel might not be elegant, the contents inside will be protected and arrive in perfect condition.
