Charleston's Collection

Every collection has a beginning.

Mine started with an unexpected phone call.

Back in 2025, Charleston’s Fine Art Auctions got in touch and asked if I’d be interested in working with them. It wasn’t something I’d ever planned, but it opened my work to a whole new audience of collectors and began a relationship that continues today.

Painting for the auction rooms has been an interesting experience. My work has always been about weather, atmosphere and the Australian landscape, but along the way the skies became a little more dramatic, the flowering trees a little bolder and the paintings took on a slightly different energy. It wasn’t a change of direction so much as another chapter in the same story.

What surprised me most was how much those paintings influenced the work I was creating back in the studio. Ideas travelled both ways, with auction pieces inspiring paintings for galleries, my website and private commissions, and sometimes the quieter studio work finding its way into the auction room.

Looking back, that unexpected phone call became the beginning of a wonderful journey, one that has connected my work with collectors all around Australia.

These days, every few weeks another group of paintings heads off to Charleston’s. I thought it might be nice to share a little of that journey here. I’ll be updating this page with each upcoming auction, the paintings I’ve consigned, and a few thoughts from the studio before they head off to meet their new collectors. Whether you’re simply curious, following the auctions, or hoping to bid on a favourite, I hope you’ll enjoy coming along for the journey.

This Week in the Auction Rooms

Charleston’s last auction in Canberra  saw three paintings sold, with three attracting strong bidding before being passed in.  Auction rooms naturally rise and fall from sale to sale, but it was wonderful to see collectors once again embracing these vibrant landscape paintings. Thank you to everyone who bid and collected a piece.

 My Favourite This Week

Beneath The heavy Sky – 140 x 90 cms

Beneath the Heavy Sky explores that moment when a storm seems to pause before moving on. The landscape is almost silent, the old tree standing as a quiet witness beneath layers of cloud and light. I wanted the sky to carry the emotion of the painting, allowing the vastness of the Australian landscape to speak through atmosphere rather than detail. It is a work about resilience, stillness and the beauty that often arrives just before the weather changes.
