Garden Folly is a pen and wash ink piece on watercolor paper, revisiting a medium that has been part of artistic tradition for centuries. This piece comes unframed but will be carefully sealed in an acid-free clear envelope to ensure its protection and longevity.
Pen and wash has a rich history, and my connection with it dates back to my days in art school, where I created several works in this medium. Although I moved on to explore other techniques after graduation, the allure of this beautiful and expressive approach stayed with me. Recently, I felt it was time to return to pen and wash, to further explore its potential.
In this series, I have chosen evocative subjects like stone ruins, steps, and garden follies—timeless symbols of history and decay. I used an old-fashioned dip pen and nib, along with paintbrushes, combined with some of the exciting newer mediums available today that enhance ink’s performance. These additions bring a contemporary flair to the traditional method, creating an intriguing blend of old and new.
The painting is signed on the front with my name, ‘Lucinda,’ and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its quality and uniqueness.
