Before the Sky Breaks was created for Charleston’s Fine Art Auctions as part of my continuing exploration of weather, atmosphere and the Australian landscape. A vast formation of luminous cloud sweeps across the horizon, filling the sky with movement and anticipation. Beneath the gathering weather, the landscape remains still, suspended in the quiet moments before change arrives.

The painting reflects my fascination with the drama and beauty of approaching storms, where light, cloud and space combine to create a powerful emotional presence. The contrast between the expansive sky and the simplicity of the land below evokes a sense of expectation, wonder and calm before the storm.
