Waiting for Thunder was created for Charleston’s Fine Art Auctions as part of my continuing exploration of weather, atmosphere and the Australian landscape. Beneath a vast darkening sky, a solitary flowering tree stands quietly in the open landscape while a great cloud gathers overhead. The painting captures that fleeting moment of stillness before a storm, when the air seems to hold its breath and the landscape falls silent.
The contrast between the luminous tree and the deep atmospheric sky creates a sense of expectancy and quiet tension, reflecting nature’s ability to balance beauty with power.
