This painting began with the memory of moonlight breaking unexpectedly through dense coastal cloud, illuminating the sea for only a few moments before disappearing again. I wanted to hold that feeling of silence and distance, where the water seems suspended between darkness and light.

Painted in layered oils, the work explores atmosphere, reflection and the calm that settles after weather has passed. The glowing horizon and softened clouds create a sense of stillness, while the shifting light across the water draws the eye quietly into the distance.
